Keep in mind these four pointers to keep safe from strokes

Most strokes can be avoided by a healthy lifestyle and control of your eating habits. The Bureau of Health reminds you of the following guidelines.

1.Maintain a healthy lifestyle: Keep a diet low on oil, sugar, salt, and high on fiber. Exersice for at least 30 minutes every day, keep your BMI within the recommended range, sleep well, and this should help you stay away from the threats of a stroke and other chronic diseases.

2.Dispose of bad habits: Even just one cigarette per day can increase your chances for cardiovascular disease by 50%, and your chances for stroke by 20%. For help on quitting, call the toll-free hotline 0800-636363. The World Stroke Organization has recorded over one million stroke cases with a drinking problems, showing that alcohol may also be a causing factor. 

3.Control your Three Numbers: Maintain your blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol level and follow your doctor’s orders. Never stop or reduce your medication of your own accord.

4.Recognise the FAST symptoms of a stroke: Low temperatures may cause the blood vessels to contract, sending the blood pressure up and increasing the chance for a stroke. Keep in mind the symptoms of FAST (Facial sagging, Arms limp, Slurred speech means Time to call and ambulance) to save lives.

At this time of changing seasons, chances of strokes are high. Please do not ignore signs of symptoms, and visit a doctor immediately if anything arises.


You can be a little different after 50. Be young at heart and you can live an elegant and fulfilling life.
