Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a type of bacteria that can causes pneumonia. However, symptoms such as fever and sore throat are relatively mild. It is called "the walking pneumonia", which means that the patient can walk around and does not need to be confined to bed. Nevertheless, mycoplasma pneumoniae can make people cough continuously, even for a month, it is a painful and onerous problem.

School-age children and young people under the age of 40 are susceptible to mycoplasma pneumoniae. This type of bacteria is transmitted through saliva. The infection latency is long and it commonly occurs in crowded places such as kindergartens, elementary schools, dormitories, military camps, and nursing homes.
