Traditional Chinese Medicine Talk: Strengthening Your Immune System – Acupuncture Points

The word “immunity” first meant to “keep safe” from “infectious ailments.” Two thousand years ago, TCM texts mentioned how people should keep “positive airs” within to keep the “negative airs” from entering, and how if it does enter, a human’s body would weaken.

According to TCM, “negative airs” enter when your immune system is weak. That is why we should take care to keep our bodies healthy at all times, and not just when we are feeling under the weather!

Here are some acupuncture points we can make use of to keep our immune systems up.

Acupuncture Point Massages

Zusanli Point: Four finer widths below the knee, you will feel sore and bloated when pressing it. This is the point associated with your stomach, and can help increase stomach and intestinal action.

Union Valley Point: at the cross between your thumb and index finger. This point helps with your lungs and big intestines.

Wind Pool Point: in the dip behind your head, just below the hairline. Pressing it can help boost your immune system. It can also reduce stress for those who feel pressured by their lifestyles.

 

Massage methods

Press and knead with your finger for 3-5 minutes before changing to another hand. Perform this twice per day, once in the morning and once at night.

Finger pressing: Use your thumb to press down slowly.

Finger kneading: Use your index finger or thumb to make small circles over the point.

Press method: Use your finger to press over the acupuncture point.
